Fray Zumarraga s/n, Col. Aragón la Villa. 07000, Villa de Guadalupe
The Pocito Chapel stands as one of the most important religious sites of the Villa de Guadalupe complex, where the Virgin of Guadalupe is worshipped. It was built between 1777 and 1791 by architect Francisco de Guerrero y Torre. Built in Baroque style, it is one of the few with a circular base.
Its name derives from the spring of sulphurous water that was there before construction. At that very chapel came one of the heroes of the Independence of Mexico, José María Morelos y Pavón, on December 22nd, 1815, to worship the Guadalupe Virgin before his execution.
