What it is. Helicopter flights over Mexico City, operating from the Peñón de los Baños area beside the international airport.
Why the aerial view is worth it here. Because this city only becomes legible from above. From the air you can see at once what the ground hides: the Mexica grid beneath the colonial centre, the Porfirian roundabouts strung along Reforma, the 1920s oval of the Condesa tracing an old racecourse, the chinampa geometry of Xochimilco, and the sheer scale — twenty million people filling a basin ringed by volcanoes, with the Ajusco and, on a clear morning, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl on the horizon.
What to confirm before booking. The actual flight time as opposed to the total duration of the experience; the route, since the price difference between a short circuit over Reforma and a longer one is substantial; the number of passengers and whether you are guaranteed a window; the weather cancellation policy; and any weight restrictions.
When to fly. Early morning, in the dry season from November to April, when the air is clearest and the volcanoes are visible. From June to September afternoon storms frequently ground flights.
Practical notes. Av. Capitán Carlos León s/n, Peñón de los Baños, beside the airport. Metro Terminal Aérea, line 5, is the nearest station; a taxi is simpler. Allow more time than the flight itself for briefing and boarding.
