in detail

Where the name comes from. Parque Las Américas, also known as "Naciones Unidas", refers to one of the most important international organisations: the UN, founded with the signing of the United Nations Charter. The square inside the park carries that dedication, and the plaques around it mark the member states —an unusual piece of mid-century internationalism in a residential park.

What it is like. It sits in colonia Narvarte, one of the city's solid middle-class districts: tree-lined paths, lawns, benches and playgrounds, busy with runners early and families in the afternoon. There are no attractions as such —the park is the attraction, and the surrounding streets are full of the taquerías and cafés Narvarte is known for.

Getting there. In Narvarte, Benito Juárez. Etiopía-Plaza de la Transparencia and Eugenia stations on metro Line 3 are the closest, and Metrobús Line 1 runs along Insurgentes a few blocks west.
