What you see here. Charreadas and escaramuzas in a ring in the south-west of the city. The escaramuza is the women's discipline of charrería: eight women riding side-saddle in adelita dresses, performing synchronised figures at a gallop. It is the most spectacular part of a charreada and the one that most surprises anyone seeing their first.
How the venue works. It programmes festivals and performances, and the rest of the time rents its facilities for family events. The offices are open every day from 09:00 to 20:00, but that does not mean there is a performance: confirm by phone the date and whether the event is open to the public before going.
Context that helps. Charrería is Mexico's national sport and is inscribed on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. What happens in a ring is not a tourist show but a regulated competition between associations.
Practicalities. Avenida Centenario, colonia Plateros, Álvaro Obregón. There is no Metro right there; a taxi is the practical option. Events usually run at midday in full sun: cap, sunscreen and water.
