Jardín Santiago Felipe Xicoténcatl (Parque Álamos)

What it is. The park sits in one of the main colonias of the Benito Juárez borough and has been a meeting point for local residents for years. You will usually find children running around and using the green space, and the square is ringed by traditional, long-established businesses selling all sorts of things —the kind of commerce that disappears from gentrifying neighbourhoods and survives here.

Who it is for. This is a neighbourhood park, not a sight: come if you are staying nearby and want somewhere to sit, or if you are curious about how the middle of the city actually lives away from Roma and Condesa.

Getting there. On Calle Castilla, colonia Álamos. Chabacano station, where metro Lines 2, 8 and 9 meet, and Villa de Cortés on Line 2 are the closest.
