What it is. The rooftop of the boutique Hotel Downtown, on Isabel la Católica, set on top of a seventeenth-century palace in the heart of the historic centre. It has a pool, a signature cocktail list, a gourmet menu and a view over the roofs and domes of the centre that you cannot get from street level.
Why the climb is worth it. Because the centre reads differently from above: from here you see the colonial rooftops, the church towers and, behind them, the Torre Latinoamericana. At sunset it is one of the best terraces in the city, and the building itself — courtyard, stone arches, stone corridors — already justifies walking in.
What to bear in mind. It is a hotel terrace: prices sit above the average for the centre and it fills at weekends. To be sure of a place at sunset, book or arrive early; ask whether the pool is for guests only. The building also holds a cluster of Mexican design shops on the ground floor.
Practicalities. Open every day from 09:00, until midnight early in the week and until 02:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Metro Zócalo-Tenochtitlan and Allende are a few steps away.
