Álvaro Obregón #60 loc. 5, Col. Roma Norte. 06700, Roma
Where it comes from. The chain's origin goes back to 1945, when "La Perla de Oriente" opened —the first name and first branch of the company. Through several transformations it became what it is today, and it belongs to a very particular Mexican tradition: the café de chinos, the Chinese-Mexican cafés that shaped how the city has breakfast.
What to order. The bisquets —soft, split and buttered— with café con leche poured from two jugs at the table, the ritual that defines the format. Beyond that, full Mexican breakfasts: chilaquiles, eggs every way, pan dulce and hot chocolate.
When to go. Breakfast is the moment, and weekend mornings are busy with families; expect a short wait. This branch is on Álvaro Obregón in the Roma, so it pairs with a walk through the neighbourhood's bookshops and cafés afterwards. Insurgentes and Cuauhtémoc stations on Line 1 are close.
