in detail

What they make. This is one of the most emblematic mazapanerías in the country. The flavours come from the artisanal process they still use, and the house has decades of tradition and reputation behind it. Mexican mazapán is not the almond paste of Europe: it is made from ground peanuts, pressed into discs that crumble the moment you unwrap them.

Why it is worth a stop. It travels well and it is one of the few genuinely Mexican sweets that survives a flight home intact —far better as a gift than the mass-produced versions sold at the airport. Ask which flavours were made that week.

Practical note. Bring cash, as small traditional shops do not always take cards, and check the use-by dates if you are buying to take abroad: the artisanal product has a shorter shelf life than the industrial one.
