It was built between 1902 and 1910; it is organized into three naves and its architecture is of neocolonial appearance seeking to harmonize with Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso. In this complex La creación is found, the first mural of painter Diego Rivera, made in 1922 with the help of Carlos Mérida, Jean Charlot, Amado de la Cueva and Xavier Guerrero.
The amphitheater is dedicated to music, and concerts are held, organized by the Music General Head Office of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). It is located in the downtown area, near Zócalo and next to Templo Mayor.
