Deportivo Guelatao

What it is. A public sports centre in the Centro, recently rebuilt and reopened after an investment of nearly 17 million pesos by the Cuauhtémoc borough and Conade, the national sports commission. It runs classes and workshops for children, teenagers and adults —swimming, diving, yoga, boxing, artistic gymnastics, bodybuilding and more— in a part of the city where public sports space is scarce.

Why it stands out. The diving boards. Very few public facilities in the city offer clavados coaching, and this is one of them, which is what brings people here from other boroughs.

Practical notes. Honduras s/n, Colonia Centro, a few minutes' walk from Metro Garibaldi (Lines 8 and B) —which makes it one of the easiest sports centres to reach by public transport. Open Tuesday to Sunday 07:00–20:00 and closed on Monday. Fees are low and paid in cash; pools require a swim cap, and class timetables change by term, so call the listed number before travelling for a specific activity.
