Calle Parque Lira S/N, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc. 11850, Polanco-Chapultepec
The official residence of Mexican presidents. It is colloquially known as “Los Pinos” (The Pines). Its history dates back to 1853, when Dr. José Pablo Martínez bought land in the area known as Molino del Rey to build his ranch, which he named La Hormiga. With the inauguration of President Lazaro Cardenas, it was announced that he would not live in Chapultepec Castle, which was then the official presidential residence, but at the ranch. However, he changed its name to Los Pinos in memory of the orchard where he fell in love with his wife, Amalia Solórzano, in Tacámbaro, Michoacán. It was inhabited by him in March 1935. Six years later, Manuel Avila Camacho also lived there with his family, making it the official home of successive leaders.
