The Luis Barragán House, built in 1948, is a contemporary architectural work that has gained international acclaim. It was recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2004. It is the only single property in Latin America to have that recognition, as a result of its influence on the development of the modernist movement, combining traditional and vernacular aesthetics, and various trends in art and philosophy.
Inside, each room is designed to enrich the experience of the function for which it is intended. There are warm and serene spaces where lines and colors mark the rhythms and ambiences. Besides the architecture, it is important to note that both the furniture and décor are original and combine artisanal production with religious and contemporary works of art.
This house-museum consists of the residence and workshop of the prolific architect. It belongs to the State Government of Jalisco and the Tapatia Luis Barragan Architecture Foundation.
Tours are guided, with a day of anticipation, Monday through Friday by appointment only. To request a tour please send an email to [email protected], or call +52 (55) 5515 4908.
