Atocpan means "fertile land". It is a colorful village where the main economic activity is selling mole of different colors and flavors.

As instructed, in 1680 the order of the Franciscans had gone to the area to evangelize the people. Their centenary heritage can be appreciated at the Señor de las Misericordias Sanctuary.

It is located on top of a hill, from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the town. Inside, there is a black corn paste Christ from the sixteenth century. The exterior is decorated with flowers and colorful ornaments.
