What it is. A tortería and Mexican kitchen on Insurgentes Sur, in Roma Sur, of the kind that handles the neighbourhood's daily lunch: short menu, low prices, fast service.
What to order. Tortas — milanesa, pierna, ham and cheese — and the stews of the day. In this format the thing to ask about is the comida corrida: a fixed menu of soup, main course and agua fresca for roughly what a coffee costs in the Condesa. It is the cheapest way to eat well in the city.
When to go. Open every day from 09:00 to 22:00. The strong hour is lunch, between 14:00 and 16:00, when the office workers from the Insurgentes corridor arrive.
Getting there. Insurgentes Sur #470, in Roma Sur. Metrobús line 1 runs along the avenue and stops very close; Metro Chilpancingo, line 9, is a few minutes on foot.
