The chain. El Tizoncito is a Mexican taquería chain that presents itself as the creator of the taco al pastor as it is known today — the argument over the origin was never settled, but it explains why pastor off the spit is the centre of the menu. The format is a restaurant with tables and waiters rather than a street stand, with hours that run into the small hours.
This branch. On Canal de Miramontes, in Jardines de Coyoacán, in the south of the city. It stays open until 03:00, which makes it one of the few late options in a residential district where almost everything closes early.
Getting there and when. There is no Metro nearby: car or taxi, with parking in the area. The strong hour is after 22:00 at weekends, when people arrive from elsewhere. For the trip back in the small hours, use an app taxi.
