Taquería El Lago de los Cisnes

What it is. A taquería in Lomas de Chapultepec defined by its hours: it opens at 08:00 and closes at 02:00, and from Thursday to Saturday it runs until 06:00 in the morning. It is one of the very few places in the west of the city that will feed you at dawn.

Why that matters. In Mexican nightlife, tacos in the small hours are the obligatory close of the evening — and, when needed, the next day's remedy. A taquería open at five in the morning in a high-end residential district is a rarity, and that is its reason to exist.

What to order. Tacos off the grill and off the trompo; the salsas sit on the table and it is worth tasting before you serve yourself. For a hangover, local custom says caldo or consomé.

Getting there. Prado Norte #391, in Lomas de Chapultepec. There is no Metro in the area — Auditorio, line 7, is the nearest — and at dawn there is no public transport at all: app taxi both ways.
