The chain. Vips is the most widespread coffee-shop restaurant chain in Mexico, with a broad Mexican and international menu, breakfast all day, free coffee refills and mid-range prices. Early breakfast, a predictable meal, a clean bathroom and wi-fi — and cards everywhere.
This branch. On Avenida Miguel Ángel de Quevedo, in Oxtopulco, Coyoacán — the street that was for decades the bookshop avenue of Mexico City, lined with second-hand and specialist shops. Several survive, and the Librería Gandhi flagship is on it.
Where it puts you. Between the university and the centre of Coyoacán, both within reach: Ciudad Universitaria and the MUAC to the south, the Jardín Centenario and the Frida Kahlo Museum to the north-east, and the Viveros de Coyoacán — a national tree nursery turned park, where the city runs in the morning — a few minutes away.
Practical notes. Av. Miguel Ángel de Quevedo #175. Metro Miguel Ángel de Quevedo and Copilco, line 3, are a short walk. Book the Casa Azul online before coming — it sells out daily.
