What this page is. Álvaro Obregón is one of the sixteen boroughs of Mexico City, and this is its borough seat —the administrative building where residents handle civil registry paperwork, grants and local services. Opening hours are office hours: Monday to Friday 09:00–18:00, closed at weekends.
Where the name comes from. The borough is named after the revolutionary general Álvaro Obregón, who took office as president in 1928 and was assassinated that same year in San Ángel, within these boundaries. The name was made official in January 1932.
Why a visitor might care. Not for the building, but for what the borough contains: San Ángel with its cobbled streets and Saturday bazaar, the Desierto de los Leones national park, Los Dinamos, Santa Fe at its northern edge, and the Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo. The borough offices also host community events —workshops, courses, concerts and civic commemorations— which are listed locally rather than in tourist guides.
Getting there. Canario s/n, Colonia Tolteca. There is no metro at the door; Barranca del Muerto (Line 7) and Mixcoac (Line 12) are the nearest stations, with local buses for the last stretch.
