Fuego Nuevo is one of the great celebrations of Iztapalapa since the region itself in the Preclasic period. The celebration is directed by the belief that at the end of every day in each century, the sun will desappear forever. In that precise moment, every fire was blown out and priests carefully observed the skies in order to sacrifice a victim, while new fire (Fuego Nuevo) was switched on. In Cerro de la Estrella, the ceremony is still made in the current time, but without any human or animal sacrifice.
The museum gathers every founded vestiges, thus it obviously gives an explanation of the first humans’ worldview that lived in the area.
