Av. de la República #157, Col. Tabacalera. 06030, Alameda
What it is. A Mexican kitchen on Avenida de la República, in the Tabacalera, working in the cocina de raíces register — contemporary technique applied to native Mexican ingredients rather than to an imported template.
What that means on the plate. The serious end of Mexican cooking here works from things that barely exist elsewhere: criollo maize in dozens of varieties, chiles named by origin, insects, herbs like hoja santa and epazote, and cacao handled the way it was before Europe got to it. A tasting menu in this register is an argument about Mexican food, not a French one with local decoration.
Where it puts you. The Tabacalera, a few streets from the Monumento a la Revolución and its viewing deck, and from the Plaza de la República with its fountains — one of the pleasantest public spaces in the centre. The Museo Nacional de San Carlos and the Museo Mural Diego Rivera are both within walking distance.
Practical notes. Av. de la República #157. Metro Revolución, line 2, is a few minutes away, and the Reforma Metrobús stops close by. Dinner starts at 21:00 in this city; book ahead for Thursday to Saturday. Tipping is 10 to 15 per cent and often not included.
