División del Norte #2553, Col. del Carmen. 04100, Coyoacán
The chain. Bisquets Obregón goes back to 1945, when it opened as La Perla de Oriente — the first name and the first branch of what became one of the most recognisable Mexican chains. It has stayed entirely Mexican-owned, and its signature is freshly baked sweet bread alongside full breakfast, lunch and dinner service.
What to order. The bisquet itself — a soft, slightly sweet roll, split and buttered, which is what the chain is named after — and café con leche poured at the table from two jugs, coffee in one hand and hot milk in the other, from a height. That pour is the house ritual and the reason people bring visitors here.
When to come. Breakfast, without question. Mexican breakfast is savoury and substantial — chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, enfrijoladas — and this is one of the most reliable places in the city to meet it.
This branch. On División del Norte, in Del Carmen, Coyoacán — within reach of the Jardín Hidalgo, the Coyoacán market and the Frida Kahlo Museum.
