8 de December
De 07:00 a 22:00
Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Sagrado Corazón y Santa Cecilia
23 #112, Col. Olivar del Conde 2o Secc. 01400
The festivity is celebrated at Parraquia de Nuestra Señora del Sagrado Corazón y Santa Cecilia. She was considered a martyr for taking care of her vow of chastity.
This event is held every year on 13 December, the feast of Saint Lucy, in Olívar del Conde, Álvaro Obregón.
Who Lucy is and why it matters here. Saint Lucy is the patron of sight, and her feast draws people asking for help with their eyes — which gives the day a particular character: alongside the usual parish celebration there are queues for blessings and a stream of visitors from outside the neighbourhood.
What happens. Nine days of masses before the feast, the principal mass on 13 December, and the procession carrying the image through the streets with a band. The atrium is dressed with flowers and papel picado, dance groups perform, and the fair outside — food, rides, games — runs for several days, with fireworks at night. Being mid-December, it overlaps with the posadas, so the neighbourhood is already in festival mode.
Practical notes. Olívar del Conde has no Metro of its own; Metro Tacubaya and Barranca del Muerto, with a short taxi ride, are the usual approach. Entry is free and the fair runs on cash. December evenings are cold; the fireworks come late.
