Asado del Valle Amores

The house. Asado del Valle is a Uruguayan grill with several branches across the city. What diners recommend is the same everywhere: the arrachera, the beef empanadas, the tropical salad and the chivito al pan, Uruguay's national sandwich — steak, ham, cheese, egg, lettuce and tomato in a single roll.

This branch. On calle Amores, in Del Valle, a leafy middle-class residential neighbourhood, quiet and well supplied with local restaurants. It is not a tourist area: it is where the people who live there eat.

Getting there and when. Metro Zapata and División del Norte, line 3, are a few minutes away; there is parking in the area. Open Monday to Saturday 14:00 to 23:00 and Sundays only until 20:00. Since it opens at 14:00, it is no use for an early lunch.
