What the tour covers. A behind-the-scenes visit to the Estadio Azteca: the commemorative plaques, the press room, the dressing rooms and pitch level. It runs 40 minutes to an hour, with a maximum of 40 people.
Why this stadium matters. It is the only ground to have hosted two World Cup finals — 1970 and 1986 — and the site of two of the most replayed moments in football history: Pelé's Brazil beating Italy in 1970, and Maradona's two goals against England in 1986, the Hand of God and the one voted goal of the century. Opened in 1966, it is home to Club América and to the Mexican national team.
Hours and prices. Monday to Friday 10:00–17:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00–14:00. On match days the tour closes six hours before kick-off, which catches people out. Separate adult, child and senior rates apply; confirm the current prices when booking.
Getting there. Calzada de Tlalpan #3465, Santa Úrsula Coapa. The Tren Ligero stops at Estadio Azteca, directly outside, which is far better than driving.
