Tortas Locas Hipocampo Del Valle

What it is. A branch of the Tortas Locas Hipocampo chain on Avenida Coyoacán, in Del Valle. The tortas are generous, the filling combinations are what give the house its name, the prices are low and the service is fast.

What to order if you have never eaten a torta. The milanesa is the obligatory first one: breaded steak with beans, avocado, tomato, onion and pickled chillies inside a telera roll. For the intense version ask for it ahogada, drowned in sauce; if you are travelling with children, ask for it without chilli and nobody will mind.

When to go. Open every day from 07:30 to 22:00, wide enough to cover breakfast through dinner. The busiest hour is lunch, between 14:00 and 16:00.

Getting there. Avenida Coyoacán #1435. Metro Zapata and División del Norte, line 3, are a few minutes away, and the centre of Coyoacán about fifteen minutes by taxi.
