St. Jude is one of the most popular saints in Mexic o City. In the Pedregal de Carrasco municipality is located one of the chapels honoring the actions and teachings of Jesus' disciple.
This event is held every year on 28 October, the feast of Saint Jude Thaddeus, in Pedregal de Carrasco, Coyoacán.
Why this feast is different. Saint Jude is the patron of lost and desperate causes and the most popular saint in modern Mexico after the Virgin of Guadalupe. His devotion is enormous and visibly young: on the 28th of every month, not only in October, his churches fill with people carrying statues of the saint dressed in green and white. October is simply the biggest of those days.
What happens. Masses running continuously through the day rather than a single principal one, long queues to have images of the saint blessed, music outside, and food stalls along the surrounding streets. There is a procession in many parishes, and the atmosphere is closer to a constant stream of arrivals than to a single ceremony.
Practical notes. Expect crowds and slow movement around the church for most of the day. There is no Metro immediately nearby in Pedregal de Carrasco; Metro Copilco and Universidad, line 3, are the closest. Carry cash and little else, and ask before photographing people.
