What it combined. Food and the LGBT city — two things Mexico City does unusually well, and which the tourism ministry bundled deliberately. Mexican cuisine is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage; the capital is where every regional version of it converged.
How to put the same day together yourself. A market walk at San Juan, where the chefs buy, or at Medellín in the Roma. Dinner in the Roma or Juárez, which hold the current wave of Mexican kitchens. A mezcal tasting by variety and producer. And an evening in the Zona Rosa, on Amberes and Niza, which is two minutes from the Roma on foot.
Practical notes. Lunch is at 14:00 and dinner starts at 21:00. Book the well-known kitchens ahead for Thursday to Saturday. Metro Insurgentes, line 1, serves both the Roma and the Zona Rosa.
