San Luis Potosí #199 piso 9, Col. Roma. 06700, Roma
This run has ended. Cuatro elementos. Cantos indígenas was staged by Sensorama, on the ninth floor of San Luis Potosí #199 in the Roma, and is no longer running.
What it was. A sensory piece that invited the audience into the Mesoamerican understanding of nature through atmosphere rather than explanation: textures, scents, tastes and the songs of different indigenous peoples of Mexico, used to approach the four elements and their ancestral meaning. The audience moved through it in small groups, largely in darkness.
Where the subject continues. The upper floor of the Museo Nacional de Antropología is devoted entirely to the living indigenous cultures of Mexico, region by region — the most substantial permanent treatment of this material anywhere, and the part of the museum most visitors run out of time for.
Practical notes. Sensorama rotates its pieces, usually running two or three at a time; performances are in Spanish, in small groups, and booked ahead. Metro Insurgentes and Cuauhtémoc, line 1, serve the Roma. Check what is currently running before travelling for it.
