What Foro Shakespeare is. One of the longest-running independent theatres in Mexico City, open since 1984, with several stages, a bar and a programme that mixes drama, comedy, stand-up and children's theatre. It is the kind of venue where a show can run for months on Thursday-to-Sunday evenings and then disappear.
How to find what is on. The theatre publishes its season a few weeks ahead on its own channels; the Cartelera de Teatro listings cover the city as a whole. Prices are a fraction of commercial theatre, and the same venue often has two or three productions running on different stages on the same night.
Practical notes. Performances are in Spanish without surtitles. Book ahead for weekends, since the rooms are small. Metro Chapultepec and Juanacatlán, line 1, and Patriotismo, line 9, are within walking distance; parking in the Condesa is scarce, so arrive on foot or by taxi.
