This run has ended. Comedia chida was a stand-up night at Foro Shakespeare, Zamora #7 in the Condesa. The season is over, though the venue continues to programme comedy.
A note on the title. Chido is one of the most Mexican words there is — roughly "cool", "great", "nice" — and it is the kind of word that tells you immediately what register a show is in. This was informal, local, bar-room comedy rather than anything polished for export.
What to expect from a Mexican comedy night. Several comedians doing short sets, a compere holding the night together, and material that runs on local reference: politics, the Metro, neighbourhoods, family. It is entirely in Spanish and the audience is part of it.
Finding what is on now. Foro Shakespeare and a number of small venues across the Condesa, the Roma and the centre run stand-up several nights a week and publish line-ups a week or two ahead. Expect a cover charge and a minimum spend; shows start around 20:00 or 21:00.
