This run has ended. Stand Up Bar Comedy was a comedy night at Foro Shakespeare, Zamora #7 in the Condesa. The season is over, though the venue programmes stand-up regularly.
The format. Bar comedy means several comedians doing short sets rather than one performer doing an hour: a compere, four or five acts, a drink in hand and an audience close enough to be part of the show. It is the format in which most Mexican comedians test new material.
What to expect. Everything is in Spanish, and the humour depends heavily on local reference — politics, the Metro, neighbourhood stereotypes, family. Audience interaction is common, so the front row is a decision rather than a seat.
Finding a night now. Foro Shakespeare and a string of small venues in the Condesa, Roma and the centre run comedy several nights a week, announcing line-ups a week or two ahead. There is usually a cover charge plus a minimum spend, and shows start around 20:00 or 21:00.
Getting there. Metro Chapultepec and Juanacatlán, line 1, and Patriotismo, line 9. Parking in the Condesa is scarce; for the trip home, use an app taxi.
